Tapered roller bearings are one of the most popular types of bearing in the industrial and automotive industries. This type of bearing is designed to accommodate both axial (sideways or thrust forces) and radial loads (downwards force) in a single direction. Tapered Roller Bearings are available in 3 main different types, single row, double cup and double cone.
The single row type consists of a single cup and a single cone. This is the most commonly used type of tapered roller bearing with bore sizes ranging from 5/16" (7.9375mm) up to 61.1/2" (1562.1mm). With such a large range of sizes, these single row tapered roller bearings are used in many different applications such as motor vehicle wheels, motorcycle forks, fire door closers and conveyors.
Double cup tapered roller bearing consist of a single cup designed to accommodate two bearing cones. Double Cone tapered roller bearings consist of a single cone designed to accommodate two bearing cups. These two types of tapered roller bearings are available in sizes ranging from 0.4719" (11.987mm) up to 72" (1828.8mm). Due to their variety of sizes and load capabilities, these bearings are mainly found in applications such as cranes, heavy machinery, various railway applications and wind turbines.
