A cam follower, also known as a track follower, is a specialised type of roller or needle bearing designed to follow cam lobe profiles. Cam followers come in a vast array of different configurations, however the most defining characteristic is how the cam follower mounts to its mating part; stud style cam followers use a stud, while the yoke style has a hole through the centre of the bearing.
Stud type cam followers are available with many different features such as; multiple greasing points, crowned and cylindrical outer ring surfaces, caged and full complement internal constructions for heavy loads or high speed applications, threaded and easy-mounting type studs, eccentric studs, and miniature versions for precision applications.
Cam followers are found in a variety of applications such as robotics, medical equipment, aerospace and conveyors. Due to the cam followers' unique construction, they have very high load capacities relative to their size, making them the perfect type of bearing for an array of different applications.
